I am an Englishman who has worked on four different continents, so I have had the chance to experience first-hand a number of cultures including their art. I think these experiences feed into my approach to my photographic art.
I was born and raised in Coventry, England. Coventry is a large industrial city, the first English city to be 'blitzed' during the second world war; as a child I grew up playing on the sites of bombed out buildings. During the bombing, the cathedral was heavily hit by incendiary bombs, the stone walls and spire stood but the remainder was destroyed by fire. The next morning people arriving at the cathedral were surprised to find, on the stone altar, two of the large roofing nails tied together in the form of a cross, this 'Cross of Nails' has since become known in many countries as a symbol of reconciliation.
Coventry is also famous for a certain lady, I guess you could say she is my 'home town girl', the 11th century noble woman, Lady Godiva. Lady Godiva and her husband, the Earl of Leofric, were a devout Christian couple who had founded an abbey; she was also a patron of the arts. At one point she was trying to persuade her husband to reduce taxes (he was keen on public works) so that the people had more time and money available for the arts. In the end, he said that if the arts were really so important to her then if she, as a perfect expression of art, would ride through the town in the nude, he would reduce the taxes. She did and he did (according to records of that time Coventry had virtually no taxes). The earliest accounts underscore that her ride was an expression of her love for the arts. She rode through the town, among the populace, at noon on market day so that all might appreciate her beauty. [photo is the Lady Godiva statue in the centre of Coventry]
After leaving school I worked for a telecommunications company, my job involved working throughout Great Britain, as well as tours in Hong Kong and Africa. After leaving telecommunications I came to the U.S., spending four years in the Dallas-Fort Worth area and twenty-four years in Hattiesburg.
My wife, Anne, is from Wilmington, North Carolina. I have a daughter and three sons who are working or at college.
I have been involved with photography for just about all of my life and over the last few years I have been concentrating on the area of 'Fine Art Nudes'. This web site gives a few examples of my work; all the photos here are anonymous in deference to the wishes of the models. My portfolio has a much wider selection of images. If you are interested in giving the man in your life something of yourself, please feel free to contact me by email or phone (601-297-3686).
